KEEPING UP WITH COMPUTERS IN SCHOOL

Shelly Bailey is the Technology Coordinator for Treynor Schools.  This puts her in charge of keeping 227 computer units and several networks up and running with the latest software and operating systems.  Bailey presented an overview of the school computer networks and software used by teachers and administrators to facilitate student progress records, parent communication, student education, and daily school functions.  Bailey noted that the high school and elementary schools have separate computer networks at present, but next year the Treynor schools will be combined in one computer network.  Each year there is more student access to computers at school for working on assignments.  Currently two mobile computer labs, portable units with 16 lap top computers each, are being reserved by teachers as needed in their class room.  Additionally there are three other rooms with student access to computers.  Bailey stated that the Accelerated Reader software was popular with students and has advanced their readership levels according to standard test scores.  Additional books and associated reading evaluations are added to the Accelerated Reader book library as funds become available.  Our Club and the Octagon Club have each contributed to this effort this year.
